Safe Rigging at Height in the Live Event Industry

Due to the increasing size and complexity of live events, presentations and theatre, it is no longer sufficient for a rigger to have learnt his trade “by watching some other bloke do it”.

The fact there is now a nationally recognized qualification in Event Rigging (National Rigging Certificate) increases the need for formal training.

The two-day courses will condense the time required to see, comprehend and practice the techniques required by any technician who “wants to hang something over somebody’s head”.

Safe Working Ltd was set up in 1995 by Mark Armstrong, Oz Marsh and Olly Sanders in response to numerous requests from others effected by rigging and those who wanted to become riggers.

Utilising Mark and Olly’s previous teaching experience and qualifications, matched with theirs and Oz’s experience in rigging, the resulting courses were held periodically over the last ten years.

The welcome agreement of Earls Court Exhibition Centre to provide training facilities has enabled SWL to provide courses on a more permanent basis.

These courses have been recently updated to take into account current legislation, equipment and techniques.

The ‘Ropework and Safety’ course has been relabeled ‘Safe Working at Height’ and a ‘Rescue Course for Live Events’ has been introduced.
